New Jersey Ban on Utility Shut Offs to End Dec. 31, 2021

The New Jersey moratorium on gas and electric companies shutting off service due to non-payment during the coronavirus pandemic is set to expire at the end of the year and the state has sent alerts to 350,000 households with overdue bills.

The grace period to apply for utility relief ends Dec. 31 and residents may apply for assistance in paying bills if they can show an economic hardship related to COVID-19.
